Magna is a group of housing and housing related organisations
The Magna Housing group is made up of Registered Social Landlords, Magna Housing Association (MHA) and Magna West Somerset Housing Association (MWS), a development company, Charter (S.W.) Ltd and the parent of the group, Magna Housing Group Ltd (MHGL). Magna Careline, a 24 hour emergency alarm service for communities and businesses, completes the group.
Magna Housing Association operates mostly in Dorset, Devon, and parts of Somerset. What began in 1993 as West Dorset Housing Association with the purchase of West Dorset District Council’s housing stock, now has 5,823 homes to let, plus 237 currently under construction and 269 shared ownership homes (as at 31st March 2010).
Magna West Somerset Housing Association operates mostly in West Somerset and parts of Devon. Since taking over the ownership and management of homes and garages from West Somerset District Council in 1998, and forming the Magna Housing group along with MHA, MHGL and Careline, MWS now has 2,121homes to let, with a further 12 properties under construction and 37 shared ownership properties (as at 31st March 2010)
Charter (S.W.) Ltd is Magna’s development company. As well providing shared ownership homes for first time buyers in partnership with local organisations, Charter has a number of joint ventures with private developers to build open market housing across Dorset, Devon and Somerset.
Magna Careline is our monitoring and alarm service. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we provide peace of mind for more than 6,000 private and business customers across the south west.
MHGL, the parent of the group, is responsible for the smooth running of overall operations. It includes functions such as legal, finance, personnel and communication that work across the group, providing value for money and consistency.
Our day-to-day operations are managed by paid staff, but our work is directed by unpaid Boards made up of members from the local community.

We work with our residents, local authorities and our community partners to make sure the things we offer are the things that they want and need. We are passionate about our performance and regularly measure our success (and our occasional failures) against other organisations to make sure we provide the value for money service we promise.

MHGL, MHA, MWS and MCL are registered as Industrial and Provident Societies and are governed by rules approved by the Financial Services Authority, the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Tenant Services Authority (TSA).
Magna Housing Group's headquarters is at Hollands House in Dorchester, Dorset. MHA's main office is also at Hollands House, while MWS is based at St Peter's House in Williton, Somerset.
Some of the work we do is as part of the Source Development Partnership. This is a partnership of Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) who have many years' experience providing a broad range of high quality homes in rural areas, towns and city centres. |
